WYFA CHEERLEADING PROGRAM

The Waukegan Chiefs Cheerleading program is open to girl and boys from 7 - 14 years of age. The program is instructional in nature. Our teams compete in the JFLNI (Junior Football League of Northern Illinois), which consists of teams from Fox Lake, Lake Villa, McHenry, Mundelein, North Chicago, Round Lake, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, and Zion. We abide by the by-laws set into effect by the JFLNI Board and its members.
PHILOSOPHY:
The Cheerleading program strives to provide the participants a safe and recreational atmosphere to introduce the sport of cheerleading. No prior experience or prerequisites is necessary to join the program. All children enrolled will receive an opportunity to participate.
SQUAD DIVISIONS:
Our squads are broken down into five different age levels and prior experience. They are Varsity, Lightweight, Featherweights, Pee Wee and Bantam. Saturday Cheerleaders will cheer at all Saturday football games and Sunday Cheerleaders will cheer at all Sunday football games. The following is a general breakdown of the requirements for each division:
These are only guidelines.

  • Varsity: All 8th grade participants and 7th graders with prior experience. Varsity cheer for the Varsity Football team during the season. Games are played on Sunday.

  • Lightweight: Remaining 7th grade participants and 6th graders who have prior experience in the program. JR Varsity cheers for the Lightweight football team during the season. Games are played on Sunday.

  • Featherweight Sunday: All 5th and 6th graders who have prior experience in the program. Featherweights cheer for Featherweight football team during the season. Games are on Sunday.

  • Pee Wee Sunday: All 3rd and 4th graders who have prior experience in the program. Pee Wee Cheer for the Pee Wee football team during the season. Games are on Sunday.

  • Bantam: Start out thier cheerleading career by learning the fundamentals. This squad is for the youngest participants. All registrants must be in 1st or 2nd grade at the onset of the season. The Bantam squad cheers for the Bantam Football team on Saturday.

  • Other Saturday teams will be announced if we have the participation necessary to form more squads

SPECIAL NOTE:
It is very important that the cheerleaders support the football players at all of the games. They are also expected to respect the football players and cheerleaders for both teams, opposing squads coaches and officials. If you know that you will not be attending a game you need to let your coach now in advance. We cannot have poor attendance of cheerleaders to football games.

Cheerleaders are to appear at all games RAIN or SHINE.
